Hampshire Photographer’s Keyworker Competition

What a year it’s been!To honour all the frontline key-workers last year I ran a competition for an outside photoshoot.

The 2020 winner was Pedro and his gorgeous wife and children.

Rewarding those who always help others first with some precious family photos

One Thursday night when we’d all been outside clapping the key-workers, I said to my friend I want to run a competition for all those working on the front line.

I invited everyone I knew on and off Social Media to nominate someone they knew and a week later names were put in the hat and the draw was done.

There was such a range of people put forward from doctors, nurses, retail and support workers. It was really humbling seeing the names of all these people going out of their way to protect us.

Our winner was Pedro an A&E nurse at QA Hospital in Portsmouth

The winning key-worker was an A&E nurse at QA, who had also worked on the Covid ward and was separated for some time from his family. Pedro and his family were very worthy winners and we had a brilliant day at the beach.

An early photoshoot at the beach on Hayling Island

We had to time the photoshoot around the baby’s feeding and sleeping schedule, so we met at 8am and headed off to a lovely spot on Hayling Beach.

The picnic blankets were laid down and I photographed the family playing, paddling and having some lunch on the beach. It was a bright sunny day if not a touch chilly at that time of day!

We pretty much had the beach to ourselves. The family were dressed smart casual and all looked beautiful. Their daughter who was just turning 4 had a lovely time climbing and splashing as did mum dad and their baby boy.
I had an enjoyable time editing all their lovely photos and a couple of weeks later I presented their gift box, images and a print.
